  • Caravan aerial question.

Couldn't find the caravan section so ive had to put this in the general section.

Anyway, can anyone recomend an aerial so i can get better reception in the caravan, was thinking of one on an 8 foot pole that you stick near the tow hitch but im open to suggestions.
If its not broke don't fix it.

I can tell you that we install a fair few Omnimax multidirectional type antenna on boats and most of the time the result is crappy. You would be almost certainly better off with a short Yagi pointed at the nearest transmirtter, if you can find its location. You will of course have to re-tune the telly to the particular region concerned, if you are traveling far.

        Ey up Si,

        Long time no talk mate,

What about one of those dishes that you see on
the roofs of mobile homes, they auto seek the best
signal and follow it? they even fold flat when you
start the engine! or is that a bit O.T.T. for your needs?

        Steve.

Edit: Don't forget, you'll need to go digital soon.

We bought a satellite dish, LNB, cable and a tripod all for less than £70. Wherever we went we had a perfect picture and took less than 5 minutes o set up. For more info have a look at http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/
You can either purchase a second hand digi box for about £20 or take the one from home. If you have sky at home you can use the card in the digibox in the caravan but you will not be able to get premium channels like sport and movies.
If you do not have Sky at home the digibox will still pick up most channels like, BBC1, 2 & 3 plus most of the ITV channels and a load of other freesat channels. Much better than faffing aroudn trying to find a poor picture.

I got a sat dish from a sky mate, used my sky box and put a scaffold pole with dish attached in the jockey wheel clamp, 5 minutes setup just point it where others do then use the box tunin facility, worked great till some theivin bastad boosted the van this week took box, telly and our lasses GHD's, so I've nowt to watch and the missus hair is a ###### mess.
