  • just a suggestion...

Going to be doing similar myself soon, however as has been stated all vehicles and their current suspension set ups vary wildly, even standard ride height!
I am going to purchase my chosen rubber and then try and fit them on.
Best case, that extra inch or so will not effect anything at all apart from on full lock when driven on roads.
Worst case, the extra width COMBINED with the height will rub when on flat ground (normal driving)
Probable case will be somewhere in the middle.
2" HD coils already fitted. Coil spacers to be fitted soon. Rear shocks have a few inches left in them so OK for most road use. Off road will need plus2 or 4's
Front end to be wound up a bit. Might need ball joint spacers.
If you intend to articulate your corners each and every day, then a full overhaul as has been discussed would be most appropriate. If not, then the occasional rub when on full lock or at huge articulation might be liveable.

Many years ago i had a Jago Geep (yes, spelt right) Kit car based off ford escort mk 2 running gear. 31x10.50's went on that and only rubbed on full lock, and even then you could feel it and "back off" a little. I'm assuming the surf is no different.

So as has been said, get the tyres you want and work backwards, might save yourself quite a few ££££'s.

    IMHO.

    • I like your thinking wolf about buying the tyres first! I've also got roughtrax +2" springs, I've ordered coil spacers and hopefully Animal will be sorting me out with BJ spacers.

I didn't realise that I would have to do all the other bits (I thought the standard height of a surf was 13.5" and I'm only at 13.75")

My Body lift kit turned up today - I haven't had the tools out to check it but it all looks good, holes are in the middle and seems to be cut square.

I might fabricate some ARB brackets ('cos that won't cost anything) when I'm doing the bumper and rad brackets. Panard can be cut and sleeved if necessary - So if I need longer brakes and shocks it's about £300 (including uprated damper) I'm not actually fitting anything until the end of october (due to insurance) so I'll just keep buying the parts when I can afford them!
      It's getting expensive!

Because they are all worn or modified to different degrees. Standard is standard. +2" is 2" more than standard, not 2" more than your saggy arse or droopy front is just now.

Aye, after all; Jago and Toyota had exactly the same development budget and design team. And 'backing off' mid turn is neither good advice nor a practical solution to badly designed and thought out suspension modifications.

Do it whatever way you like, but you'll not get 33s to work properly with no lift or a small lift on a Surf.

        IMHO

I will have one last go at this. As 100+ posts is getting real boring.

          Pudd the cheapest way possible to fit 33s and have a fairly decent truck.{what your after I think}
This is based on me actually having lifted half a dozen surfs and used various aftermarket parts to do them.

          LC Springs = £50
          +3" shocks x4 = £180
          2" lift blocks = £60
          Bumper drop brackets = free
          33s x 4 = £340 approx for cheap ones KL71s ect
With the torsion bars wound up to level the truck, this set up will give 5" of lift

          So approx £650 all in

Optional but by no means a must

          Spring seats
          Extended brake lines
          Ball Joint spacers
          Uprated Tor bars
          Adjustable panhard or drop bracket
          Steering damper
          Free wheeling hubs

If you run out of lift and or money, the other way of making big tyres fit its a large hammer and thicker bump stops.

                • Sorry for boring all you experts who have done this plenty of times!
For me it's my first go and I'd like to get it right, that's why I'm asking for your advice.

Although a Sticky saying how to lift your truck would stop people asking a million question!

As it stands I'm doing this:

+2" Springs (Roughtrax - fitted a month ago)
+2" Coil spacers (bought from Outrageous offroad)
+2" Body lift (bought from Xpajun-ebay)
+2" BJ spacers (yet to buy)
+4" Rear Shocks (probably rough country from llama 4x4)
+2" front shocks (also from Llama 4x4)
                  Longer brake lines
Longer brackets - I'll make myself
Then bigger wheels and tyres and possibly an uprated steering damper.

I had bigger than that on my, standard, plastic car, you don't know what you're talking about.

You'll need the get the front geometry adjusted if you're fitting balljoint spacers.

You'll find that if you search too!

I did search and I found that! - my problem was I searched on suspension lift and found so many different ways to do it, so many variations etc. That's why I tried to explain what I was trying to achieve as an end result hoping to get a deffinative answer but there is no deffinative answer Trucks seem to vary in height, what will fit one may not fit another! I guess I'll just go for it and see what happens

Pudd you are making this overly difficult, all standard trucks will be eh standard!
Some may have saggy arses but that dont mean new parts will be differant on truck to truck.

I wasn't trying to be smart but you seem to change with every post.
I only tried to list the cheapest way of building what you wanted.
