I remember visiting my nan, she had a Import D reg Corolla from Japan. It was a 1.3 Automatic - immaculate RWD model. She sold it Had it from new as well, unsure why my Grandad bought an import unless it was for the spec :/

I thought that was only in the commercialised / American illegal street racing films? Remember this is Japan we're talking about. Their "Drifting" started up in their mountains. They claim they invented it, but like it has been mentioned rally drivers would have "invented" it before hand. I cant remember years / dates.

              No... no its not.

Ahhhh, F&F... the reason there's so many knuckle draggers around sporting 'unique' tribal graphics on themselves and their Mondeos.

So basically as Apache said....Rallying but slower.

I'd get a kick out of doing it and have watched it, but it is in no way about racing, ie getting there fastest. Its about car control and showing off, pure and simple. (but don't take that to be a knock..)

Yes it can get boring from time to time but the skill involved in getting the car to the limit and then keeping it there is one of the allures to the sport. Yes I like to watch it and yes I would enjoy doing it but as Puddle said its flipping expensive.

This drifting thing doesnt do anything for me, but I suspect there is probably somebody, on a drifting forum somewhere, telling his fellow members, that driving a 4wd through deep puddles is utterly pointless, and on some level he,d be right. Both activities seem pretty pointless, but different people obviously get a kick out of both, making neither pointless
                      each to their own.
