  • Apple arn't so bad...

and score another for the internet.

Just been doing a little research on how to fix my broken Ipod, and found some info that was very interesting.

My ipod stopped making noises, out of the speaker jack or the main socket when in the dock. Everything else works fine.

Apparently a chip breaks, and you can make it work by pressing the bottom left hand corner together really hard, but them it stops as soon as you let go.

Anyway, the long the short of it is, Apple will replace the ipod as its a known fault.

    But get this.....

My 5th gen Ipod is over 4 years old, bought USED of ebay last year for £40!!!!!! The initial support person told me its over 1000 days out of warrenty!!

but following internet advise, being nice but firm and convincing the first level costomer support person to put me through a 'product specialist' I then described the symptons exactly to him, and he told me 'yes sir, we'll be happy to replace your ipod with the same or better (depends what they have) new unit' they are sending me a package to send mine back, and on confimation of the problem will get the replace out within 5days.

That, is very impressive. Well done Apple, future business assured.

    Good stuff Tony!

Almost getting convinced that there is still some good customer service left in the world!

Last night I went for a meal with Faye to a restaurant she went to with work a few weeks ago. At her work do she had shellfish and got (very) sick right after. She dropped them a nice email the next day to let them know what had happened. She got a phone call that day and an invite to come for a complementary meal for two when she was better.
We went last night and had three courses each and wine all or no charge The manager came out and welcomed us, apologised for before and made us feel very welcome. The bill must have been about £150!

I'll confess, I did consider projectile vomiting as we left

Same experience when my 1st gen mini ipod packed in out of warranty. Filled in an online form (which knew I'd bought it from Circuit City in Yuma!), they sent a box to pack it in, and within a week I had a nice shiny new one!

It made my mind up I'd buy more Apple products.

        I-pods?

        Is this the teenager section?

Tony, couldn't you just leave it pinched in a vise while you work?

hmm, good idea for in garage, but would have fit another vise in center consol when using it truck....and i often have it on going to sleep, so another one on the bedside table?
