is there an idiots guide on the site? ie 2nd and 3rd gen wots that?

after owning landys for years i am now thinking about a toyota for economical/comfort reasons.
whats the difference btween 4 runners and surfs?
does the auto box work well with the deisel?
and can you get them without all that blooming chrome?

We've only got 2nd gens so cant answer this with accuracy other than to say 3rd gens start in 1996 and dont have a 2.4 TD version.

4-runner is the version of the surf sold in UK for about 3 years in early 90's - these will all be 2nd gen and come in petrol & diesel, manual & auto's. not that many differences, but 4-runner doesnt have "all that blooming chrome" bumpers/wing mirrors grey/black as standard. they also dont usually have A/c
does the auto box work well with the deisel?
Yes - very well, and relatively quiet for a diesel (more so in 3rd gen and later 3.0 2nd gens than earlier cars which can have some audible turbo whine due to the Turbo being on top
and can you get them without all that blooming chrome?
$-runners dont have it as standard

Also some later 2nd gen surfs came with colour coded bumpers rather than chrome ones.

Depends on mileage but if has got a FSH as stated and looks as good as the pictures seem to sugest then its about right. Also with the Runner you will find more manual gearboxes in the runner than in the 3.0 Surfs.
