1992 2.4 auto. Now with 245K Kms on the clock, in daily use (cant afford to run more than one motor). Tows a caravan during the summer. Has been known to get a bit hot and bothered on big hills but given the chance to cool down before anything goes bang. Still on the head it was imported with but has had 2 new water pumps and a new rad, stat and rad cap. Only use water and anti freeze in the rad, never used any of those coolents. Fitted an ATF cooler, cut in switch for the electric fan and lifted the rear edge of the bonnet to assist air flow. Its an 18 year old under powered 2 ton 4x4 not a sports car so I dont flog the arse of it, and yes one day will give up the ghost. But nothing will go on forever, no matter how much time and money you throw at it. So till she gives up I'll just enjoy her.

I'm leaning towards the viscous fan not working properly as I just did mine yesterday, though it still had oil in it. When hot and I shut the engine off it kept spinning/freewheeling for something like ten revolutions so obviously not dragging enough air through the rad as not locked up, I think the oil grade could be a big part of the problem even though jap temps and ours are not too far apart, I've replaced the oil for the 6000 stuff, did a run uphill once warmed up, (80deg) and with the new stuff it never got to 90, stuck at 88ish.
This truck has no spots or bullbar and hasn't since I got it, in fact nothing impeding airflow. Though it sits at around the 80-85 mark @ 60-70mph and now doesn't get to 90 on normal operation I have yet to try towing again, I suspect the temps will rise pretty fast when under this type of load and I will be monitoring this. The stock guage never moved when my head went, not one bit, hopefully the new one will alert me to any problems, I won't be letting the car get over the 100deg mark unless someone can tell me what would be a safe, as in no busted head, temperature to allow when in a tow situation. George, this can only be generated by splitting a neutron and inducing a chain reaction. Currently we can only generate the tri-part radiation/chain/potential generation by means of an uncontrolled nuclear explosion...or mrs gwh's roast potatos as we refer to them in our house.
and thats if the 100.000 tesla's are in square meters they would still be useless to meam not die lex sick its you that cant read mate

George ...
A neutron, is a neutron. It has no electrical bias..hence neutron...
It does have mass. The energy within a nuclear blast, a spontaneous half life turning pitchblend into lead, or just plain switching the light on, is delivered in a discreet package of energy known as a 'quanta'. This allows for eg , light, to be described as a ray ( stimulate some gas near a ruby...voilà laser )
or do youngs double slit experiment and witness a proton being in two places at the same time...voilà a wave. This is plancks wave ray duality thingy.
Stop Reading wikipedia and get some real books.
forgot...a tesla isn't measured on m^2...that's a weber. A weber is found( if memory serves), by finding out how long it rakes to collapse a magnetic field, and measuring the potential in volts...or summfink like that.Last edited by gwh200; 15 August 2010, 16:55.Non intercooled nothing.

Ahhh the old duality thing. Loved that experiment with the slit lightbox we used to do at school. Really messed with your head
I remember years ago, DSTL (where I used to work) causing a bit of a stir by experimenting with single photon communications, the idea being that it was secure. You couldn't (easily) eavesdrop without disturbing the photon, so it an expected photon disappeared or changed in nature, you'd know someone was listening.
They set up a 'transmitter' on the site, and a receiver in the Wyche Inn on top of the hills (good line of sight they claimed). What a bugger eh? Having to sit in a pub for long working days listening for photons...
Gra / George, for magnetic susceptibility, we work in dBpT (Decibels relative to Pico Teslas - a bit smaller than Gra's rather large 100'000 Teslas! )Last edited by Apache; 15 August 2010, 18:15.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

I don't think that there is diffinative advise that will stop you cracking the head.
It is good advice to fully service your truck (as with any vehicle) paying particular attention to the cooling system. The problem is if the former owner has filled the system with radweld or KSeal, then when you service it you wash out what is keeping it going and bang goes the head.
Mine is now running much cooler than it used too, thanks to a new radiator and an additional transmission cooler, which I plumbed in before the radiator so the transmission oil gets cooled by the new cooler then foes through the factory radiator which maintains it at the proper temperature. I haven't towed with her since dong this, but her local temps are at least 10 degrees lower than before. These temperatures are taken from a probe bolted on the engine block itself and not the coolant temperature.Gone from 4x4 to 1x2
