Everybody that watches the TV will need a pair of 3D glasses. Personally I think the gimmick will wear thin pretty quickly. I suspect the only broadcast stuff will be big budget movies and top sporting events. If you've got money to burn it might be worth a try but I can't see the point in it myself.
The major pusher of the technology is going to be Sky TV cos from what I've read about their business they're putting predictions of big profits in it so it might well be the thing that finally bursts their bubble and lets their competitors in.
My recommendation for a decent TV is don't get one that is too big for the room you're buying it for (buy a copy of What HiFi for really good guidelines) and get a decent hi-def progressive scan (1080p), FreeeviewHD, FreesatHD compatible set. Read as many reviews of kit as you can and they buy it as cheap as you can from your local Richer Sounds.

I work next door to a commets, I know the team there and for once,I have to say they are a bunch of kewl guys, but that said even even watching the flag-ship 3d tv really wasn't that impressive.. unless you think one cardboard cutout running infront of another one is impressive.

waste of time buying a 3D tv now. philips have developed one that you supposedly wont need to wear glasses with, in saying that its on in the R&D stage,
plus €3k for a tv and NEW blu-ray player that has 2 or 3 movies available no thanks......
you have to buy a seperate 3D Blu-Ray player if you already have a Blu-Ray player, plus the specs retail here at about €200 a pair of glasses....

I do not want to go out and spend money on a new tv and wish I had spent a bit more and got 3d ready. Much like HD when that came out and they were still selling non HD TVs cheaper. I think it will catch on in a year or so when more content is out there! But you buy a TV and expect it to last a good 10 years give or take!

It took ages for me to find a new set that I thought was good enough on standard definition..
There are two competiting versions of 3D another Betamax VHS war... hang fire for maybe 4-5 years..
But I think it will sell... watched SKY's demo at a Broadcast trade show... the Sport stuff had people watching in droves...__________________

had a look ata a 3d tv tonight in costco, samsung variety, put the special specs on and it just looked blurry . i also think it is a fad gimmick to be honest the only way it will work is like what nintendo are doing with the nds 3d which doesnt use glasses it uses a apecial screen which has some sort of slat system which makes one eye see different images to the other, geeky i know.
