Can anyone tell me if the 1st gen 2.4 starter motor is the same as the 2nd gen 2.4 starter motor.I did send TonyN a message but not heard anything yet.Need to know asap

not sure, but Roughtrax list the same part number for mk2 and 3 2.4 pickups and 2nd gen 2.4 surfs, so I'd tentatively say yes.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road... -
I would say yes.
Part numbers are the same on Roughtrax for the 2nd gen 2.4 surf and '84 - '89 2.4 pick-ups.Comment
