  • That wonderful time of year again....insurance renewal!!

I have done a search of insurance quotes on here & so far not had much joy. For my 2.4TD 1990 Surf, fully comp, with 7yrs NCB I have been quoted £546! Currently with Swinton who quoted my renewal at £870! No blooming way!! I am waiting on Adrian Flux to contact me tomorrow for a quote.

At this rate I may have to consider downsizing and I really don't want to....

Does anyone have any recommendations please?
It's only kinky the first time...

Maybe I should go into my local branch and try to persuade them nicely to bring their overexagerated price into the normal range!!

Just need to remember where I put the axe & the sledgehammer...

Trade union membership might offer cheap insurance deals. Joining organisations like CSMA can help too.

Beyond that try increasing excesses, talking to people directly (lie that you've got a cheaper quote and watch the call centre bod talk to their boss and give you a better deal than your cheapest quote).

Reduce your cover from fully comp down to TPFT and use a wheel clamp?!

Try putting someone's granny on the policy as a named driver even if they'll never use the blummin' thing.

Get them to "bend" the rules as much as possible (eg tell them, truthfully, that the Surf is the same as a 4-Runner so quote for that but be sure that they know that you have an import vehicle)

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Above all - be honest in declaring things (bending the rules is one thing, make sure they really do know the truth!) cos it'll only come back to bite you on the bum if you need to make a claim!

          Good luck!

EDIT: Just had another idea - phone round lots of different brokers cos they sometimes get special promotional deals with individual insurance companies. The missus got her bike insurance sorted a couple of years ago cos the broker we phoned had a special limited deal with Norwich Union for a couple of months that meant they could undercut any other broker by a country mile.

Try tett hamilton 01275 792270, they are based in bristol.

Ive been with them for the last 3 years & no one came close to beating them, even all the usual suspects that you've already tried.

Im paying £400 fully comp, doing 20,000 miles a year + business use "i do have full NCD though"

Oh I've definitely been honest with them. I've had to put my details onto a few for them to call me back as the earliest Hilux they seem to list is 1992! Nowhere online seems to list it. Damn & blast!!

Absolute honesty. Make sure you put your actual date of birth down rather than whatever makes you 21 again! lol

I was going to post back here earlier today. My insurance is up on the 20th. Last year I paid £390 fully comp with Adrian Flux. This year they quoted £490

But there is good news. I spent a few mins looking at Noel Dazely http://www.noeldazely.co.uk/ and they quoted me with my suspension lift, alloys, bigger tyres (basically everything) for £275 fully comp and im insured for pay and play (Avalanche). Another thing, they don't take no claims discount into consideration (or something) so I can use my 7 years NCB on another car if I wanted to. I'm 25.

A slightly funny note, I used one of those price comparison websites that you cannot get away from - (constant TV and radio Ads!) And out of the 90 so companies they searched only 2 of them would insure me, and they both quoted £2000 for the 12 months. HA HA I said.
Also tell the companies you get quotes from that the owners club recommended them to you.

Your a woman, isn't insurance supposed to be cheaper for you?? Friend at work has fully comp on his Landrover for £11. Yes eleven - he even (jokingly) asked about paying in installments
                  Oh Nana, what's my name?

Surely I'd want to increase it for insurance purposes? I certainly don't think I'd get away with being younger! Unfortunately...

Cheers for that. I'll give them a go & Si's recommendation too. Every little helps.
£11!!!!! I wish! that would be brilliant!

I thought it was supposed to be cheaper being a woman & over 25 etc.... doesn't seem to be the case! Was toying with doing a ROSPA course or some such too.

Maybe I should have bought a newer one.
