can you tell i like my fishing??????
got to get fit enough now for a bit of shore fishing hell i miss not being able to fish anymore at the minute i've got to try and get the strength back in my legs to be able to manage the walking involved for the shore spots
I'M ALWAYS IN THE SH'T, IT'S ONLY THE DEPTH THAT VARIES!!!!!!!!
It was amazing walking around some of the little fishing villages on the Portuguese coast when I was on a motorcycle tour there a few years ago. Most houses seemed to have a BBQ outside grilling freshly caught fish that you could nip down to the beach and buy from the fishermen straight out of their boats.
The smell was amazing. Nothing like the rotten fishy smelly fish mongers - too fresh for the fish to start going off like that.
Freshest mackerel I ever had were on my dads boat. Line caught, whack on the head, gutted, into the cabin, fire up the cooker, under the grill.
Absolutely stunning! Like chalk and cheese to the ones from the supermarket!
We used to get skate and plaice regularly too, with occasional bass. One very memorable trip, we got a biggish monkfish and one humungous turbot! Mmmmm!
I used to set lines on Harlech beach in the winter. Never had much but bl00dy dogfish on those though.
Just a PITA to prepare. Never got big ones, all around the 16" mark so used to throw em back or take a couple home for the cats. Nice in a fish pie though.
