Dunno what sort of Surf you've got though (it's not on your vehicle details here or on your post on the other forum you linked to) so you'll have to search out the bits on the roughtrax website yourself to see if it's appropriate to your Surf...

    HTH!
thank you for that mate at least i know what they are and look like ,i just need to find out what to do with them so ill use the search facility as another very helpful and very nice member has already suggested

You could allways fit free wheeling hubs that will stop it.

Like I said, those are for the LN130 Surf - I dunno if other Surfs are the same so you'd better double check before ordering anything.

To make it easier in the future, it'd probably be worthwhile updating your profile to include the details of your surf so that when we search for stuff to offer help we know exactly what we're looking for.

(eg t'other day someone was asking about shocks but I wasn't sure if it was a 3rd gen they'd got so I didn't post anything in the end...)

Excuse my ignorance - but how would that help? Are the bronze bushes something that are removed as part of the process of fitting freewheel hubs?

If thats the case it sounds like a bl00dy good idea (excuse?!) to fit them...

Steve has a 2nd gen ..... as for FWH's that will stop the noise but not fix the problem as it will still exist in 4WD

Correct the noise I believe is caused by end float in the drive shaft where it goes through the bronze bush. I fitted new bushes only for the rattle to come back a year later. I fitted fwh and it stopped, for the amount of time I used fwd it was'nt worth doing them again.

The drive shaft jumps about in the bush and makes a rattling noise. If you fit fwh the drive shaft no longer turns unless it is in fwd, so no noise.

SteveS off roads his truck so it will also cause water and mud to get to the bearings , also the inner bush seal will give out causing a hammer drill like noise

At the end of the day they are there for a reason and i would get them done as soon as you can.Fitting FWH will just hide the problem for a while as far as i'm concerned and you never know what damage can be caused if they wear completely. You got 2 choices really Steve
1/ Take a chance on them and that they will be ok
2/Repair the fault and know they are safe
This is just my opinion as i wouldn't take the chance myself
