I know how you feel mate! I was going to sell mine but it broke my heart and couldn't do it in the end.

My wife had an escort TD. It was heavy on the fuel! not as bad as the surf but when boosting it was a thirsty boy. The car was great when we first bought it, after a year and one bad winter rust got the better of it...

Sorry to hear about your job John, will keep my fingers crossed for you. Im also contemplating selling the surf for something less thirsty, Im using my fractured left ankle as an excuse not to buy a manual diesel, and keep the auto surf a bit longer. I really dont want to change it Its the 2nd car Ive bought with my heart and not my head in 15 years.

That is exactly how I was treated on a temp contract I had working in labs in Essex just over 10 years ago. It's an absolute nightmare working from week to week and not knowing where your rent money is coming from if they decide not to keep you on the next week.

Luckily I managed to get a 12 month contract at a different company a few months down the line. I don't know how I'd manage in that sort of situation nowadays given that I've got family to take care of...

Hopefully things will take a turn for the better soon - I'm stuck on the dole at the mo with no-one willing to give me a job. I go back to Uni in September and any potential employer knows I'm only after work over the summer. They take one look at my CV, see that I'm a postgraduate student and don't even bother to contact me. It's such a pain. People who think you can get by on benefits must be living in cloud cuckoo land! The housing benefit falls over £100 short a month on the rent for a start.

Sorry - that was starting to turn into a bit of a rant!

Like I said, hopefully things will take a turn for the better soon for both of us!
