Bumper trim clips - aaargh!

So, I finally got my front bumper assembly apart, and of course I broke a few fastenings in the process.

The ones I think I'll struggle to find are the ones that hold the wheel arch flare onto the rear of the bumper assembly - one is like a little plastic rivet and the other is threaded hex and nut but with a square 'bolt' end to go in a plastic retainer.

Any ideas where to go looking for these things?

I need to remove mine for the bigger wheels I think. But mine just spin as they are rusty. I dont want to wreck them getting them off, how did you do it? I think I will try and use an air hack saw to cut the bolt off from under the nut.

Can you not use any nut and bolt in there?

I just used any fixing that would grip properly when I was putting mine back together. Taptite fasteners are good and will go into a 5.4mm hole drilled into steel or a 5mm hole in alloy.

You'll probably need to make the bits from scratch - I had to on mine. Weld a square of metal onto a countersunk bolt and use loads of araldite to fix it back in. I recall making square metal bands to clamp round the plastic to hold the new fastener in place.

That's what I'm thinking now - something involving self tappers going from the inside of the bumper into something in the trim piece. Fortunately the fixing brackets are OK inside the trim are good. All I have to do is make sure there's something on them I can screw into.

Still, this is one of those jobs you need to look at the things in the shop to get it right, so I'll prob still go down the DIY route

They're not what we're talking about though ? (unless I'm mistaken there's a slot on the back of the trim piece that a flat square of metal slides into. When it's all seized up the square rotates and wrecks the plastic)

If its the fixings on the moulding on the ends of the front bumper then i think you'll be stuffed unless you can make something from fibreglass or something to keep the studs in place so you can tighten the nuts up.
These parts are very prone to breaking as they are never really taken off so the studs and nuts just rust together.

Oddly the mouldings on each end of the front bumper were slightly different inside.

One of them I drilled holes in the existing plastic lugs inside the moulding and fitted it with self tappers.

The other one I used the same technique plus a bit of ply and a lot of araldite to make something sturdy enough for the self tapper to go into.

All in all tho, changing the front bumper is a non-trivial job. Totted up I've probably spent 8 - 10 hours on it.
