I think the problems root is that the UK do not have full-time teams in respect of nation.

The end result is you get talented football players that mostly never play together thrown together for this sort of thing and they do not play as a team.

I don't know much about roundball, but I think it's the same logic as RUGBY, if you don't play as a team against a side that does, your fekd.
