  • Truck done, Tinkering now!!

Right, I finally got the truck done and lifted. Should have some nice pics to follow soon. Bit of trouble with wrong sized bushes being sent for the rancho shocks, and the ball joint spacers didnt quite fit so a bit of modification needed there as well. has anyone had any trouble with the clearance between the springs and the shocks on the rear when using landcruiser springs. i have tried spacing the shocks back but they are still only around 10m away from the springs?!

My LC's were seated forwards of the top spring seat i.e front part of the spring off the seat resting on the chassis, rear part on the seat, and they were fine. Bottom end of the spring fitted in the lower seat as normal.

Blimey! 10m away? What kind of truck are you building to get shocks 33' from the springs?

My RHS Pro comp rubbed on the RHS Land Cruiser spring. The LHS one just missed it.

I got the hump in the end and just chucked Roughtrax +2" springs in there instead as they're a bit narrower. I was gonna keep the +4" shocks i had on and stick 2" coil spacers in with the Roughtrax springs, but one shock broke the other day and i can't find a replacement. So i'll just make do with +2" springs and shocks. Unless anyone know's where to get hold of some cheap +4" shocks?

Rotating the springs at the top to correctly seat them should be fine, I have had them on for a couple of years now and plenty of offroad use and they are close but don't rub.

Right had a bit of a brainstorm. the springs sit slightly pointing backwards from the top but i think its the very last leg of the coil which is pushing the spring into an unnatural bow, so tomorrow i am going to try and spin the spring in situ and put the end of the spring towards the back hopefully pushing the spring more forward. are the spring seatsd on the bottom welded onto the axle or bolted though. might need to spin them as well.

The truck itself now sits on top of its 33"s which everyone has said looks impressive without looking silly. i'll get my mate down with his camera for some pics too.

Photobucket is playing silly beggars tonight or I would stick up a pic of the way I seated the springs.

Right finally got te springs sorted i think. i have spaced out the bottom of the ranchos away from the spring and drilled a new hole in the top 10mm away from the old one. had it up compressed and there was no fouling at all now. getting my alignement done on thursday. anyone else noticed that the camber is out when they lift the fronet end. mine is way closer ant the bottom of the tyre compared to the distance at the top.

yup, I got the steering recall done after I lifted the truck and stuck the 33's on, so Toyota sorted out all the geometry free of charge.
