  • Pics of my various rear lifts and my opinions.

Thought this might be of use to some newbies on this site just to get an idea of different options and what effects various lifts have. I tried to keep the truck in similar positions when taking the photos but keep in mind that it is parked on a slope and I have 31's on the rear and 267/70's on the front but you can easily see the differences!

Firstly, how it was before I did anything to it.

Side steps removed....much better in my opinion.

+2" springs from Roughtrax. These springs are really stiff and improved my on road handling no end. My only criticism would be that did not actually give +2 lift, more like 1-1.5 over stock height, looks more on mine as my springs were sagging before.

LC Springs. This is probably the cheapest way to gain a decent amount of lift. I was happy with the lift but unhappy with my truck wallowing around corners. People say the LC springs are real stiff but they compressed easier than the Roughtrax +2 ones even though there were the 'uprated' Milners ones.

+2" Coils & 2" spacers. This combination gives the same amount of lift as the LC springs (slightly more in my case) but I preferred this stiffer set up.

When moving into anything over +2 rear lift there are plenty of other things that can 'pull' your vehicle back down so I have Panhard drop bracket and ARB link drop plates provided by Bushwhacker and +2 Desert Fox shocks from Roughtrax. These shocks are ok, look the part with their large bore piston casing but compress too easily in my opinion. They ride like the soft setting on the original electronic shocks so ok for off road.

All that has been done to the front is an inch of crank on the torsion bars.
Hope some people will find this a useful visual reference!

I'm surprised you say L/C springs made it "wallow" , mine are real stiff, you sure they were lc's or knackered lc's,? i got about 3" lift with them, went that route as i'd heard the +2's didn't actually give 2" lift and in some cases no extra lift at all,

They were new from Milner, the blue uprated ones. I also found that they only gave about 2.25 inches over stock. I did query this on the forum and the response seemed to be that you can expect anything from 2-3 inch lift using LC springs and I was unfortunate enough to be on the lower end!
I may try them again in the future with some way stiffer shocks as I do think the desert foxes are too soft.

Just did mine at the weekend with the roughtrax +2 and they really made quite a difference (might have had a bit more SAS than i thought tho) sorry no pics at the moment as home internet is fubared but this is what it was like. http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=59518

This is mine after the l/c's +the body lift(2") and as i said very hard on the back, in fact i removed the arb with no difference noted, plus i never got round to replaceing the rear shocks, i do get a little roll since removeing the front arb as well, only prob is the rear shocks topping out on large bumps/holes etc, and i think dsert fox shocks will rub on the springs, as there more 2fatter" than the stock ones, i'd need procomps or similar with no top shield,
have you lifted the front too?

The front is lifted by about an inch on the torsion bars. I had the Desert Foxes and LC springs for a while and they do not rub. It is a close fit but the LC's dont quite fit the original top spring seats anyway so if you seat them as normal on the bottom and slightly forward on the top there is plenty of room.

I have a feeling I read somewhere that you have had the proper spring seats fabricated for your LC springs but I could not afford them and they sat fine the way I had them.

yup! you really need the spring upper alloy seats, the l/c are a wider spring and the tops dont seat too well, mine bowed backwards and rubbed the shocks,

Seemed ok the time I had them on but if I had the money I would have got new spring seats. I no longer have the LCs fitted as I opted for the +2 springs with coil spacers instead.

I have had LC's fitted for a couple of years with procomps and they are fine, running 33's on road will never be great but the truck drives ok and carries loads with ease.
I have recently fitted 2" balljoint spacers and wound the torsion bars back to a nearly standard setting, drives much better.
