i have been looking for a set of wheels and tyres for my gen2 3ltr surf and have spotted 2 sets at roughtrax, can anyone advise on whether i should go for alloy wheels or steel wheels, i also want to put 32x11.50x15 kuhmo mt's on as will be used off road

Steel wheels for off road. Some aftermarket alloys are more show then strength . Seen a few members with damaged aftermarket alloys after off roading . If you fit steels and bend one more chance of repairing it or it will be cheaper to replace if beyond repair . The standard Toyota alloys seem to take a good beating off road .

when you say offroad, are we talking greenlane, pay n play, expedition or extreme stuff?

alloys fine for anything other than p&p and extreme.

aftermarket alloys are for bling unless you are paying a small fortune specialist alloys.

I'd go steel every time, mainly cos I'm tight.

Think they also look more purposeful on a truck - alloys (expensive Mickey T's aside) just look a bit less 'focussed'.
