I was made redundant in november with no redundancy pay,58 yrs old with little chance of work, just had a letter saying that my jobseekers allowance was ending as they only pay it for 6 months, unable to claim income based allowance as my wife works more than 24 hrs a week, even though her wages barely cover the mortgage and household bills, just rang about working tax relief and they told me i may be able to claim £16.00 a week!sick of this ###### country,if i was an immigrant they would be throwing money at me,worked and paid taxes for the last 42yrs,never been unemployed before, and this is how you get treated

Al go online and have a read on here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/pa...ents/index.htm
I went on here when i claimed benefits and Mandy works 25hrs a week.We got over £300 a month and now i'm not on benefits we contacted them and they said we were entitled to more now.
There is an online tax credit calculator that you can work out what your entitled to here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/pa...n-how-much.htm

i know exactly how you feel though Al as i am in the same boat and the social don't give a toss. How the hell they can say that all you need to live on for a week is £100 with a mortgage, and food and bills etc
Then you get the lazy tw@ts that dont do anything for years and they are left alone.
The system is totally wrong and they need to sort it

just tried that site stormforce,it seems they base the claim on last years earnings!how stupid is that, because of this i'm not entitled to anything, you work hard all your life and struggle to pay your mortage, then when you need help they kick you in the teeth

buggar yea sorry i forgot that they base it on last year and i have just had our reviewed aswell last week.I hope yo manage to sort something out tho Al as its not much fun when there's no help what so ever for the working person laid off.
The surf parts i do have gone quiet now aswell so i have to try and get 2 trucks up and running to make some money else we're right in the soft and smelly stuff.
Have you been onto the mortgage people about getting payments reduced and also the council tax you may be able to get reduced aswell.
Just one other thing Al make sure that you can still sign for your NI contribution as i am but i can then go earn cash in hand and not have to declare anything as i'm not signing to claim. This i asked about a few weeks ago when my money was stopped
If you want trainning then try and get someone to look into the St Loyes Foundation as i am getting my LGV2 and ADR cert through these and its all funded

Al just one other thing.Your benefits have now stopped so that means you were working part way through the last tax years don't it.If so get onto your tax office and put in for a tax rebate as your entitled to one as you would of payed to much tax for the short time you were working in the last tax year.Your tax payments were worked out for the year so if you only worked for a short part of that year then you paid to much tax. They won't send you the rebate unless you get in touch with them and ask for them to check your tax out for the previous tax year 2009-2010
I got in touch and i am entitled to a rebate and i only worked for 4 months out the last tax year

I know how you feel there bud, my wife is registered disbaled, she had a frreak accident in the garden 8 years ago and broke her back, she has a condition called Corda Equina Syndrome.

Last year she had a bad spell so i left my full time job as a bus driver and became her full time carer on Carers Allowance. When I applied for it they told me that I was entitled to approx £80 as week, so i thought great, its not alot, but my wife has her benifits so we both thought everything was going to be ok.

anyways, about a month later she recieved a letter from the DWP stating that her benifit was to halved, with no real explanation, so she called up the tw@s and to our horror, she was told that her benefit had been cut, to pay me my Carers Allowance!!!!!!!! so they took it from her to give to me, so we no better off finacially, in actuall fact we found it very difficult, in the end I had no choice but to go back to work full time.

She informed the DWP as did I, that i no longer wish to claim Carers Allowance, as i was back in full time work, thinking that they would give back her full benefit, did they bo11ox!!

like it was mentioned above, if we where imigrants, we`d get life on a silver platter, free tv free driving lessons, free house, free food vouchers, free this and free ###### that.

This year she had to fight to get her blue parking badge, they wanted proof of this and letters of that, it took 4 weeks for them finally to issue the badge, she had the same pelarver with her bus pass.

Imigrants come into this country, and they get given free bus passes, I should know, i see them everyday, and do know what there disability is???>>>>???!!!!!????.........

                        THEY CANT SPEAK ENGLISH.

                        Keep On Truckin!

Oh dear. Back to this nonsense again. Immigrants don't get all the stuff you think they get. There is no silver platter. They go through all the same hoops that everyone else does and have all the same problems.

Actually, with reference to "asylum seekers" I think you'll find that all they get are food & clothes vouchers rather than cash until they are granted permission to stay in the UK which can take years in some cases.

I'm on the old rock n roll at the moment and it's tough. Housing benefit falls £100 short on the rent every month, the missus is on incapacity benefit & they still reckon we have to pay council tax every month too! My 20 month old son ended up in hospital for a few weeks late last year and I had to take "authorised absence" from my teacher training course cos I was never gonna be able to catch up with all the work & teaching that i'd missed while Harlan was poorly.

I bl00dy wish there were a few jobs around here - there's nowt at the mo. Especially when potential employers look at my CV/qualifications, see that I'm a postgraduate student going back to uni in September and realise I'm not going to hang around beyond that cos I've got my teacher training course to finish.

It's an absolute nightmare but we're getting by with the help of relatives. We'd be stuffed without our respective families looking after things for us.

It took them about 5 months to deal with my Job Seekers Allowance claim leaving me to live on diddly squat in the meantime! Then they send the outstanding council tax debt onto the bailiffs despite telling us that it was all on hold until we got sorted.

This country really drives me round the twist sometimes. Especially when you see workshy chavs walking down the road at 10am, smoking a fag, drinking a can of Kestrel Super and pushing a baby in a push chair with their pregnant girlfriend 4 foot behind them doing exactly the same thing. Usually swearing and arguing with each other. Grrrrrrrrr!

                              AND BREATHE....
