  • ssrg auto ?

Hi guys, its been a few years since I was last here. I used to have an ssrx-ltd manual gearbox just coz I prefer manual. However I've seen an auto ssrg that I'm very taken with. Haven't driven it yet tho. Just wonderin if any of you can help me with a bit of feedback about the auto boxes. Are they any good? Are they reliable? How do they cope offroad? Etc.. Just as much info as poss please before I make a decision. Thanks in advance!

    Hi.
The auto box is great offroad, no fancy footwork required.. You are always on the right torque for the terrain and in low on both transfer a d gearbox, the engine braking is incrediblefor an auto. I would reccomend an auto.

I've never liked any auto that I've driven before but it just seems to suit the Surf. I wouldn't have any reservations in recommending an auto Surf to someone. I've yet to get the Surf's feet muddy yet so I can't comment on it's off-road behaviour, but then I'm an "off-road virgin" at the moment so it wouldn't mean all that much anyway!

Certainly for road use the auto box is fine.

I recommend an auto as well for Grahams reasons, plus, stress free town and motorway driving, and no expensive clutch bill.
        Oh Nana, what's my name?

expensive head bill though, if you get it make sure to keep the cooling system in top spec, and fit an aftermarket temp guage as the one in there is $hit, 2 settings, normal and f%cked. H

I agree with all of the above.

Before i got the surf i'd never had an auto before but after 3 years of owning one i can honestly say i would never go back to a manual motor, surf or otherwise.

Oh & keep on top of the transmission oil change intervals & you wont have any issues "hopefully".
If its not broke don't fix it.

Auto now has the majority in the off road world if you discount the jimny revolution

I have had a few auto off roaders and used them seriously, no issue with recommending for off road use as Graham says. As for on road why anybody would choose a manual outside of a sports car/ Sunday back road toy, is beyond me.

I have a manual surf now as that's all that was around that week however, I have had autos previously and would rather have the auto even thou the manual is better on fuel.

Well there always has to be one, i prefered my manual 2.4 to my 3.0L auto. off road, stick it in low 2 and it went everywhere, Clutch was a pig in the water with rocks but hills up and down were no prob, always found the engine braking in the manual was way better than the auto. But hey thats me, im awkward

Actually I'm not sure if the manual is better on fuel! My mates auto reaches about 2500 rpm at about 70 mph whereas my manual is nudging 3000 rpm at 70 mph!

Off road I've found the auto fantastic, engine breaking very very good for auto, and the left foot breaking trick so much easier, the surfs auto senses well and keeps traction very positive.

On road, welcome to the cruise club and pick your nose at any given moment hehe.
