  • So, the truck work continues with...

...getting it ready for the MOT, did the oil change today, used a proper Toyota filter, they weigh a fair bit more than aftermarket filters which makes me think it was worth the extra cost (###### £18!) It seems they have a lot more filter material inside them than the cheaper options. New sump plug washer and decent oil, check for leaks, top up, job done.

Fit fog light (again.....keep losing them of road )

Check all lights and horn, windscreen washers.

    Check steering for play.

Remove and inspect tires prior to brake inspection, seems to be pulling slightly to the left. Job for tomorrow night.

Found the rear axle bearing on n/s is weeping into drum very slightly, ordered kits for both sides.

Founds one of the rear studs was a bit hairy, ordered new one and 14 new wheel nuts.

Serviced back window and used silicone spray on all the other windows too.

Greased props and put copperslip on bumpstops.

Tonight I started applying the (free) chassis paint, looks good and goes on really easily.

So I'll sort out the brakes, keep painting and wait for the rear axle kits to arrive, which brings me to my question.

What is the best method to remove the bearings from halfshaft? I believe Tony N uses the 'shady tree' method. Others have then pressed on and off.

I got a man to swap mine. He swore he'd never do it again.

I was told that Hypertech in Bonnybridge could help.

Jimmy R laughed and said no. The guy in Oswald Avenue did them for me, but said 'never again'!

My half shafts are still in the shed waiting to be fitted!

Gimme them and I'll sort you out a set you can put back in the shed. Need em for MOT, rear n/s brake might be a bit oily otherwise.
I have ordered the 2 new kits from RT today.

I'm waiting to hear from RT about the idler bearing return and the old head, must have been off for the bank holiday today.

Aye, come and get them then. There are 2 wheel studs missing though. Can't remember where they went...

                    Oi, lol

I told people how to use the no tools method, but have always used a press myself.

you need a cut down spare axle housing to make the special tool, and they press out easily.

Ok, numpty question time, how do you check the steering for play? Got my MOT next week and am trying to find anything that maybe wrong with her that i haven't noticed yet.

Half shafts and things are a bit out of my depth as yet lol.
