should you mark the sections of steering column so that you can be sure that you get the same amount of movement on each section.im a little worried that all the movement will be on one joint and if its right on the limit it might come apart ,or am i just talking like some one that doesn't have a clue.

Not unless you feel the need too.
under the steering column has about 2" of slack to take up before it will part company with itself and it is flat on one side so it can be tightened up anywhere along it's length.
if you take the bolt right out and get a screwdriver in the gap where the bolt go's and open it up a bit to allow it to move easier as it's been in place for donkey's years and will be a bit tight and spray it up with some WD40 and all will be well
all the other point's wont give as they have groove's in the shaft to lock them in place!

has about 2" so if i give it a 2" lift then im right on the limit ,is that safe .and whats the point in slackening the other 2 off if they cant move

they can move but it is all tight so if you loosen them off it will give instead of blowing your seal on the steering box and the one under your steering column has more to give but you dont want to go any further you have nothing to worry about with up to 2" lift stop fannying about and get on with it MAN
