  • Trip to Wales 4 caravan...

Well I've gone and done it, Karen lee 'n' me are now caravan owners, I couldn't bear another year of suffering under canvas, besides I'm not getting any younger! We are very lucky 'cos we where given it but we had to collect it from Wales, Abersoch to be precise. My mother-in-law & partner lived in it for two years whilst they where building a house, then left it for quite a while as you can see in the pics. On further inspection though there seems to be some rot around one of the front windows.... but we'll see how we get on.

Towing it home was completely uneventful even though I've never towed before but I must admit to worrying a bit on how the hell I was gonna reverse it into my backyard, it's very narrow. I had a bit of practice reversing one of those lawnmower / tractor things with a trailer attached, god I was useless!! Having said that, I managed to reverse the thing first time in a perfect position! (I even managed to miss the bird box!) A complete fluke me thinks...

Here are some pics of our little adventure........

Nice pics. You will soon get the hang of reversing. I had the advantage of driving tractors and trailers from the age of twelve but I was a little rusty.

My parents first caravan was a freebie. A farmer friend of theirs did caravan storage. The owner didn't pay for over two years and he negotiated ownership. They had three good seasons with that one before up grading.

The biggest difference you'll find, after sleeping under canvas, is that you don't start cooking as soon as the sun comes up!

Come down and join the caravanning thread in the basement. "Non Surf Related Off Road Things." Bring a bulb though - it's dark down there!
    It's only a hobby!

Hi Damian welcome to the wobblebox club not that you get any wobble when towing with a 2 ton motor like the Surf. Nice looking van. If you go down the route of cleaning it all through, when you come to the outside use Silky Caravan cleaner it's brillient for getting all the stubborn marks off. If you need any spare blinds an things I have a few in the shed which somebody gave me and are anybodies for the asking. Caravaning is much more civilised than tenting just pull up put the legs down and put the kettle on. Perhaps we in the basement should think about having a Surfin caravan rally somewhere?
