  • Admins, I don't want to tread on anyone's toes but...

I have access to information on the Surf's engine for cam belt changes etc. from a very good garage local to me and I have access to bearings, seals, paints including hammerite, plastikote and waxoyl, tools and loads of other stuff useful to us Surf folk but I am unsure whether I should post a link or advertise the company I work for.

Once I know the bearings or seal numbers I can add them to our website or eBay shop and then it's open to everyone so I'm not playing favourites.

It's not like we are a secret organisation or anything but as we have some resident breakers on here (not that I am wanting to sell most of the same parts they are) I wanted to make sure that I didn't annoy them and also I don't know the rules about posting links on the forum for sales as it's not my goods.
People suggest Roughtrax, Milner's, Halfords etc. so I'm guessing it's no different for me?

Can an admin let me know please?

    Thanks,

    Ray.
I've got a plan and it's as hot as my pants!

I'm nothing more than a regular forum user and I don't know if there are any specific forum rules about it but I wouldn't have a problem with someone responding to a request saying "we do this/that" but blatent adverts should be paid for & in the appropriate sections of the forum (parts for sale, etc), or persuade your company to sponsor the forum? It'd help with the running costs of the forum and no doubt attract business...

its always good to know that there is somewhere else to buy new parts as long as they are good new parts.
You won't tread on our toes that break surfs as we sell 2nd hand.
I'm sure admin will be ok with a link being posted but like you say its good to ask before hand

All the items we sell are new, decent and well known brands and come with any manufacturers warranty in tact. As far as I'm aware Toyoto themselves use the same make of bearings and seals I can supply if anyone is worried about quality, I asked at the local Toyota garage.

As far as payment to the forum is concerned, I don't want to be an arse about it but do Roughtrax, Milners or Halfords sponsor the site? They may do, I don't know, but they make enough business out of us from people linking to them.

I'm trying to make cost effective home repairs even more cost effective for us poor gits permanently getting the shaft from every angle without selling junk and costing more in the long run!

I've saved so much money on this forum from tips, tricks, pointers and breakers and I've paid my dues but I want to give something more back to the forum and considering what most of the vehicles go through I wouldn't offer if I didn't think it was worth it.

Anyone else have an opinion before I start collating information to get things started?

        Thanks,

        Ray.

Roughtrax and the like have never directly pimped their stuff on the forum, and wouldn't be allowed to, word of mouth recommendations are different. Stevo, LA Supertrux and Adrian flux pay for ads to let people know of their services. They arn't going to happy someone directly advertising stuff for free.

Its ok to answer a query with info, but we can't have companys directly advertising for free, it not fair on companys who have contributed.

Speak to Koi, its not a significant amount of money, and is only fair on everyone.

I assume they don't work for that company but that's why I asked, as I do does it make it different?

I'll het hold of Koi when I get a second.

              Cheers.

Yes it does, very much so. You don't need me to tell you difference.

Well, I won't actually benefit from it but I'll wait and see what Koi says.

                        Fair point, well made!

I'm talking to Koi via PM, if I can't blanket help everyone in the way I was proposing then I'll do the same as other people, add my company as an establishment to point people to when I can supply them with items they need (as well as, not instead of) and add the company web site to my signature, so far those options are currently done by other people and therefore are within the boundaries of what's right and wrong.

                        Thanks,

                        Ray.

In my opinion that sounds pretty reasonable. It's always good to have extra choices brought to your attention. There is certainly enough knowledge on this forum to avoid making bad choices if you search around and listen to what people are saying.

Why don't you just get your boss to pay for an advert?

Just wanted to clear this up a bit from my side....
As it happens i dont work for the company (cant speak da lingo to that extent so its a bit of a non starter!) and its not plugging them as a parts place specifically its just that a lot of folk have been after wheels/spacers etc lately and they do the emu and desert fox shocks that i believe folk have had problems with getting and which are a bit cheaper (and there are a few folk over this way of the world where it costs a fortune to get stuff sent from the uk and i thought it might be helpful if someone was after something specific (guess the same as saying hey someone has this for sale on ebay if anyone is interested kind of thing).

If someone were to order from them it would either be direct or i could maybe sort out transfer to the British mail system from over here (as a favour as so many folk have helped me out on this forum over the last few years with no gain to be had for myself (trust me the BFPO system is a pain in the arse as a few folk that have sent stuff to me can testify lol )
As i said in and earlier post i think more the merrier but if they are to advertise direct they pay a couple of quid or its just word of mouth.

Just in my own opinion tho
