  • Reaming (!)

I've been having a browse around at various bits & bobs of advice about changing the glow plugs and have spotted a few comments about "reaming" the glow plug holes.

Has anyone done this on their Surf? Is there any point in doing it?

Personally I can't see any harm in doing it but given that I haven't got a reamer I wasn't going to bother.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Ta.

ive got a special tool that pulls the glow plugs out and it has a reamer/thread tap on it as well, the plug holes can coke up on occassions.i normally put some copper slip on the threads as well when i change them, makes life easier in the long run.

I was planning on the coppaslip - a vital part of reassembly in my experience!

Actually, while I think about it, can you have a check on what diameter/thread pitch it is you've got on your reamer?

I'll double check it against what I reckon it is when I measure mine to make sure I don't make a muck-up of it! lol

By 'reaming' the glowplug holes you are talking about running the right thread tap down the thread? What is the thread size. It's a hell of a thing to make a b---ocks of. Is there a helicoil that fine?
