  • Metallic pinking on cold startup

My Surf has begun making a sound similar to a petrol engine that is pinking, but only on the first few fires when starting up from cold.
I chucked a bottle of diesel reddex into the tank the other week and it fixed the cold start noise for about two weeks but has since come back.

I'm thinking this could be a bad injector? Is there anything else I should do before buying a set from Dieselbob? Is there anything else this could be besides injectors?
I'll replace the fuel filter as I can't remember when it was done.
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

I've ordered the filter and injectors. It's probably about time the truck needs them anyway - 120,000 miles. I really can't remember if I have already done the filter or not

Just been speaking to a friend at work, now I'm wondering would fuel pump timing cause this type of noise?

I had the injectors changed with Diesel Bob's about 3 weeks ago now. Since the change there has been no noise on cold start up like before what so ever. Theere has been a definite change in tick over running noise, like a more solid Diesel click, the engine sounds great on the motorway - like running water. Not quite like a BMW 6 cylinder engine though

Also, two of the injectors had began to turn gold, suggesting they had got quite hot. Not sure if this is anything to look into further.

Just thought I would post back, I assume no one replied as no one had any suggestions

          Interesting stuff.

Which injector set did you get from dieselbob? I've seen that he does "specialist" ones for use with veggie oil and was wondering if you (or indeed anyone else) has got them?

The injectors he sells for our 1KZ-TE engine is suitable for veg oil as per their website. The last set of injectors I bought from him were for the 2.4TD I had and they were also for bio fuel or Diesel.
May be for some other vehicles, there are two types of injectors for Veg or Diesel?

I ran Veg on factory injectors without any problems, I didnt notice any loss of power really. Only when the temperature is cold out. I've never run 100% veg though.
