  • Flashy o/d light fixed

Not really the way I wanted to fix it, though!

Came off a roundabout yesterday evening and slid at 51 km/ph (got the speed off a Roadhawk video I installed a few weeks ago). Went down a 6' embankment before going sideways through the wall. For those who know Galway, it happened at the new roundabout on the N6 between the Galway Clinic and Western Motors heading towards town. New tarmac, and had just rained after a dry spell, maing the roads like glass.

10 metres away there was another hole in the wall from where someone else had recently done the same thing.

I had just repainted the A-bar, and to make it worse it passed its DoE (MoT) on Friday!

Hurt ego, but thankfully nothing else!

Can't say the same for the Hilux. At least it still drives. They really are as tough as Top Gear say they are!!

We were discusing that. The guy who took those photos is a car electrics specialist. He reckoned that the sensor either felt that the bang wasn't serious enough, or the I impacted sideways first.

i'd guess a slide down a muddy bank and a breeze block wall isn't much of a sudden impact, more like jumping into cardboard boxes.

Poor truck, glad no one was hurt.

Trashed front end would suggests it wasn't a light tap either.

All you can hear on the video is me screaming "No, No, Nooooooo" like a little girl!!

As for my ego, that's been well scuppered for years.

Thank goodness there's plenty of room in the cab, as there was nothing to smack my head on.

I had been at a hillclimb, and fortunately left my generator and the (full) petrol cans for the safety bikes at it. The generator could have given my a bad smack!

That was my first thought, he only hit a breeze block wall at less than 30mph. I thought Surfs were a bit stronger than that.

I have a Roadhawk RH-1 installed; it automatically records if there is a sudden shock such as heavy breaking, acceleration, steering, potholes, or an impact.

                    Sample video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZbQ_KOGBcQ

It tracks speed, g-forces, location and, when connected to the internet, plots your position on google maps.

There was a fair drop from the road; it the wall hadn't been there, there was a good chance of a rollover.

It's all squishy plastic and thin panels, i'd bet there is little chassis damage and is quite repairable if you have the time. The wheels look in the right places, and windscreen looks ok.

Needed a big winch bumper, and rock sliders!

I wouldn't say 'only' a breeze block wall, they collapse easily, but are still quite heavy individual lumps to throw at a trucks body work as you go through!

I had a winch in the back, but it was a bit light to pull me out!

That wasn't the first time that that wall has been hit by the looks of it, even though it's only there about 6 months.

lol, i used to know someone who lived on a sharp bend, everytime his wall got rebuild by insurance co's, it got a little bigger and better, now its a work of art, and is still getting 'upgraded' annually.
