  • 4wd question

Hi, just wondering how is '4wd Low' on the transfer lever different to putting the auto lever into 'L' and selecting 4wd via the button on the transfer lever?

You have a lower set of gears, same as selecting a different cog on the front sprocket of a mountain bike. Whereas L is 1st gear, 2 is 2nd, D is third, and overdrive is 4th similar to the back sprocket on a mountain bike.
    Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

Oh forgot to add selecting 4 low on the transfer box automatically enguages 4wd to save you pushing the button.

Or, in a nutshell, 4L is a crawler gear.

4L increases the torque to the wheels. If you are slowly going down a steep hill (slowly meaning 5mph) I've used 4L for engine braking.

So '4L' is even lower than 'L' on the auto box with the 4wd button pushed in?

Putting it in 4L uses the whole gearbox. Sticking it in L, then pushing the 4WD button is sticking it in 1st gear in 4WD.
