  • Bupa

I've got an on-going issue with my left hip. Been giving me bother for years, but has got worse since November.

Went to the doc, got some physio., but nothing really got done; until last Thursday when I got my BUPA stuff through.

On Thursday (15th) I called the nearest BUPA Hospital for an appointment, got a sincere apology from the person on the phone, because the earliest available Consultation wasn't until Tuesday (20th)! I went for my appointment, Shirley and I were both offered tea or coffee, which arrived within minutes on a nice wee tray with some biscuits, whilst we waited.

Went to see the consultant, who suggested an MRI scan. I left the Private hospital at 13:15, got a phone call at 13:55 offering me a MRI scan the following day at 17:45. I will get the results on Tuesday.

It's hard to find fault with them?

I'm pleased for you, but I don't know if it is good in general.
A two tier system is great for those on the top tier.

I have this sort of theory that if you go private that they will find stuff wrong as a way of generating money.
On the other hand the NHS will ignore stuff as a way of saving money.

I also have cover for my kids however, I feel a bit hypocritical about this.

Private care creates a two tier health care system where those that can afford get better treatment. Your Consultant will be using NHS nursing staff and the MRI will take place in a NHS machine. Paid for by all tax payers not just the high earners.

I have been in Kings Park with the kids, then sent to Stirling Royal by passing waiting lists. When your kids ill you don't really care about lists. However, there is something that does not sit easy with me about the whole setup in the UK private health care system. I may be a communist or worse a socialist

Anyway I hope they sort you quick, maybe then you will have my cb fitted and stereo sortted before we head for the islands in June

The consultation was at Kings Park in Stirling, the scan at Falkirk Royal.

I understand the 2 tier system that's been created, and I'm not particularly in favour of it. But! I'm lucky enough to be on the upper tier, so I'll use it.

The MRI was done on an NHS machine, but it was done out of hours during the machine's down time, so it's not as if I was depriving anyone of the scanner. And the fancy new one they have in Falkirk wouldn't be there for NHS use if the private sector wasn't paying for at least some of it.

I will bet you got the same thing as i had Andy and if it is then they will probably offer you a Hip Debridment which i was told is a bigger and painful operation than the hip replacement. It is a marvelous operation and saves problems later in life and will help prevent having a hip replacement later in life.
Good luck with it and i hope its not the same as me but it does sound similar tho

When I was a teenager, the NHS put me in a private hospital as they were "fully booked".
Was the best hotel I had ever stayed in at the time!

What sort of money do you have to pay for Bupa healthcare? Do you just pay a yearly fee and get treatment included, or do you pay for treatment on top of that?
