No point going from 12V to 240V on the truck. Every voltage conversion you make, you lose some energy in the conversion. Best just winding your coils for the voltage you have available - and buy a bigger alternator!

Thing is George, if that IS what you're up to, remember the Inverse Square Law of Electromagnetic fields. It means your field strength halves with each doubling of distance. If you think of the field as a 'ball' of force, then only the force experienced in the solid angle subtended by the object will be applied, so you wont be able to point at a truck 5 metres away and pull it, because only the fraction of the 5 metre radius 'ball' of force subtended by the truck you're trying to pull will be applied to the truck, and thats a tiny part of the overall force.
