  • Speed sensor

Ok so changed the speed sensor on my mates surf but that has not fixed the o/d light flashing and no speedo issue. What to look at next?

Don't know but if you find out let me know because mine did exactly the same.

Is the speed sensor the sane as the throttle position sensor?
I seem to remember you may need to cancel all the faults, but I'm not sure how.

What fault code is it showing Ross?
      Non intercooled nothing.

If you disconnect the positive battery leads, leave the head light switch on this should give the capacitors within the ecu a path to drain down. Leave this overnight.

Nope, there are 2 or 3 speed sensors on the T/case or back of gearbox.
