  • Gearing question?

Hi all, question from the states for you guys.

I'm planning on removing my tired 3.4L V6 petrol engine and converting my 97 4runner to a 3.0 1kzte setup. I've located the first part of the puzzle which is an automatic transmission out of a 1998 1kzte Hilux surf 4x4.

The problem I am running into is that I cant seem to find a definite answer on what gearing the ring and pinion had on the auto/4x4 98 surf from the factory. The parts manual I looked at implies its a 3.90 gearing where another site suggested it was 4.10 gearing. Anybody know for sure?

If you're going to run large tyres then the 4.88's from a 2.4 (LN130) model may be of more interest.

I have 4.88s now with 33" tires, I am worried that once I go with the diesel setup they will be to low. I'm guessing the gearing in the diesel auto trans will be "taller" than what I am running now.

I asked about diesel gearing here.

Have a 4.88 front diff ready to go in, should get the rear one soon.
