Springs is not something I could comment on really but £170 is hardly hilarious territory. I would pay it.

The points I was trying to make are.
The garage you have recommended don't appear to have much knowledge of the Surf.
In my personal opinion £170 for an oil change and a go at fitting rear springs is a tad steep.
However, if your happy to pay then as you say it has little to do with us.
Problem is when you post it on a forum you tend to get opinions, whether you want them or not.
Also I wouldn't want new members thinking we all agreed that this garage was good.
Sorry if you thought I was taking the p iss, I wasn't, I have a genuine interest in what work he did for the price.

You obviously didn't read the post properly and you must think I am a f!"&ing idiot if you think I would pay that for an OIL CHANGE !!!!
So for the benefit of others it was £170 for ALL 4 SHOCKS ,OIL CHANGE,FILTERS CHANGE, ENGINE FLUSH,WHEELS BALANCED and a go at changing the springs.I supplied the materials, so use him don't use him I won't be making any more recommendations on here, too many opinionated people

~£40 an hour is around the mark for labour these days. 3 Hours for all that work (for a business with overheads) sounds reasonable.
The 'cant fit the springs' thing does sound odd though! I had mine (+3") out and back in on new spring locators with nothing but a jack, a stand, and a mate to jiggle the spring in while I bounced on the hub.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

Also guys - forgot to say,
Upon inspection of my fuse box at the weekend I am missing the top left fuse which is marked as "fuel heater" - common sense tells me this isnt right.
Could this be the culprit of my starting problem or could there be a reason this fuse isnt there?

Glad you got sorted with someone to help out..... and shouldn't be any fuses missing (unless they have been purposely removed for whatever reason), and that sounds like one that should be in there as i would have thought it would definitely give you some issues when trying to start.
Replacing it is as good a place to start as any.

You will only have the fuel heater fuse fitted if you have the heated fuel primer.If you have not got any wires going to the fuel primer itself then you won't need the heater fuse.If your not sure what i am on about post a pic of your fuel filter housing and i'll tell you if its heated or nothttps://www.facebook.com/groups/henpals/

Will try and get a pic tonight!
TBH that makes some sense - the truck was cared for really well by the last owner and a fuse just missing for no reason would seem odd.
