Need a good garage!

Hi Guys - you may have seen from my post over in the 2.4 technical area that I have had some starting issues which with the help of Wiggy suggest my Glow Plugs need changed.

I know a few guys on here are from Bonny Scotland and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a garage (as close to Glasgow as poss but I will travel for a reputable place) that can change the plugs and maybe do a service for me on the truck.

Alternatively I am happy to pay for the services of a fellow surfer if they fancy coming and getting their hands dirty with a noob!
Even if its just to change the plugs.

Any help..........please?

Sounds like a good idea also Noobysurfer (glasgow) was also looking for a good garage a while back and i think he got one down by Kirkintilloch. could try and PM him if you pay your subs

Yep Reids down at eastside in kirky did my last service and shocks. I bought all the stuff from roughtrax and handed the lot to him(John reid).Does a good job and is reasonable 01417761329. I am doing my own service and spring change this weekend for the first time so it should be a laugh,most likely be on here more than under the surf!!!lol

Can I ask what he charged for a service and did that include a timing belt and tension-er.

I think it was 170 quid all in,service was filters and oil,no belts. He had a bit of bother with the old shocks and balanced all wheels but couldn't get the springs to fit, so I am gonna have a bash this weekend

Good luck trying to fit +2 rear springs this weekend myself finally seems easy enough wth some good advice(finally and the lift will hopefully be done on monday if rich is reading this!) got some great tips from stormy and popeye tho so shouldnt be a drama.............fingers crossed..also would do your service yourself only takes a little while and you know its done correctly..saves some beer tokens for other things, did the water pump in an hour first time i.e all belts changed etc and im a nightmare with a spanner will just cost you parts and half an hour for a routine service.

At £170 for a oil change and 'O' sry, I can't manage the springs.

The reason he could not fit them is because he uses a hoist and didn't realise that the weight of surf would house the spring,also presumed that I had supplied the wrong springs! But I suppose everyone on here is an expert.

Oh and just for the record 40 quid an hour is not bad for a decent mechanic considering what Arnold Clark would charge! When you don't have a clue ye need to cough up.

The true value of £40 is relative; to me, £40 isn't much, but to someone who only has £40, it's everything (literally). Personally, I think £40 per hour is a bit steep.

I don't understand what you don't understand! He had the lot apart to do the shocks and the springs wouldn't sit in as there was no weight put on them.

I just a bit miffed with people scoffing at other peoples misfortune with the attitude of " I could do that in my sleep" bullshit.

As for 40 quid, yes it is relative, but how much would any other tradesman charge? 60 quid call out for a plumber or a sparks before he scratched his balls. If ye hadn't a clue you'd pay it !
