ATF & OIL
Toyota advise dexron 2 for your ATF but dexron 3 is now out. It replaces 2 but costs about £3 extra for 5ltr. I used it last week and its good.
Oil I personally use semi-synthetic, have a taxi as well and that has done 300,000 mls with no problems.LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO WORK FULLTIME

Depends how far you want to go. You can just drain out the gearbox sump and refill through the dipstick tube. However this will at best replace about 30% of the fluid.
The real way is to get 2 empty buckets.
Next step is to undo both transmission pipes on the cooler and place each one in the bucket. Start the engine and one of them will start to eject the fluid, stop the engine once you know this. This is the return pipe and this should be left in the empty bucket.
Fill the other bucket with ATF (you will need more than the total capacity so you will need at least 3 gallons I think (I think the capacity is about 14 litres or so (someone will put me right on that I'm sure).
Put the other pipe in the full bucket and start the engine. The empty bucket will fill and the Transmission pump will draw new fluid from the full bucket into the transmission. You may need to stop the engine at some point to empty the return bucket and top up the filling one. Eventually you will have replaced all the fluid in the transmission. The only but you won't have filled is the cooler. After refitting the cooler lines you can run the engine for a short time to fill the cooler and then top up through the dipstick tube.
You may want to change the filter in the transmission before doing the flush (not after as you need to drain the sump to do this). The filter is located under the sump of the transmission.
Hope that this helps. A proper Automatic Transmission specialist would actually use an external pump to do this but using the transmission pump does it OK just slower.
Cheers

Where can I get a new atf filter ? I looked on Milners and its not listed, does that mean only toyota can do ?
What about torque settings for the sump plug and sump bolts ?
Thanks alot for the writeup its brilliant and will be invaluable when I do the job.
