Nooooo! The rim's too narrow for the tyre. Dont be crying to us when you air down and it falls off

If you're fitting 12.5" wide, you really want 10" rims, or 8" at the very least! They do look very bulged - look quite pinched onto a narrow, big offset wheel on a VW from Scooby Doo...

is it road legal? i would not of thought it would pass an MOT looking like that? i have 12.5 in tyres on 10" rim and the look quite "balloon like".

              Thanks for the input!
I've been doing a bit of research and tyre sizes seem a little confusing at first.
My current tyres are the BFG AT's. Off the top of my head these are 265/75/16 which means they are 10.5" wide?
              325/60/15 would mean 12.5" wide wouldn't it!

Do you know how wide the standard surf alloys are, by chance?

You are correct, the below picture is from a Baja Beetle. I just googled the BFG tyre size and that picture came up. God knows who's car it is! Hope his tyre doesnt pop off!

How must it not look for it to pass an MOT?

I'll find out, But in that case, are you all running 12.5" wide rims on your surfs?
I've just looked through an MOT testers manual and can't find anything with regards to different tyres on rims.. May be I'm missing it.

Aparently the rule is as long as they don't stick out from the arches then they are legal.

Tyres sticking out beyond the arches does not come into the mot.
It will be down to the police if you get pulled if they want to do you for it.
Lucky enough the local plod know my truck and have never said anything.
They will probably say something once the 39's are fitted tho

Errr... the width of the rim in the pic?

A 12.5" width tyre should be on a 10" rim. They look as though they've been stretched onto a 7" rim. Maybe 8". A reputable fitter would turn you away.

... I was only trying to get some advice on some tyres, and it's turned into a thread about some random VW having the wrong rim. We don't know what rim size that is. Thanks for your advice.
