Hi all - just about to purchase my first Surf and have been looking on here for some weeks now at all the great info and what seems like a very friendly bunch!
I am and have always been a massive japanese vehicle fan, I am into Mazda MX5's in a big way and I now want something that is the polar opposite to the 5 hence the Surf!

I have been looking at 4x4's and trucks for some months now of all descriptions - troopers, shoguns etc but keep coming back to the Surf.

I have seen 1993 k plate 2.4 auto surf that has already had its cylinder head replaced. Previous owner has had it for a year with 1 uk owner prior to that since the trucks import in 2005. Good service history, new tyres, no rust etc. Truck has 93k miles on it

Asking price is £2k which I feel is a bit rich - any advice or suggestions about this potential purchase would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to getting more involved here - feel free to comment on the above

    Thanks

Hi welcome to the forum, 2k does sound a bit high but then depends on condition and extras on it.
Then again if it fits your bill and your happy with it thats all that counts

I agree - I have also seen a Pajero - now before the onslaught starts I am aware that this is the Surf forum and I expect some strong reasons going for the Surf.

I was just wondering if any of you were ever tempted by another 4x4 and why did you end up choosing the Surf?

      Thanks

I had a look around at various Jap 4x4s as well as cheap Land Rovers and the reason I went for the Surf was that it just looked like a better vehicle, better value for money and was slightly bigger (boot space, etc) and generally seemed to fit my needs better than the competition. There also seems to be more of them around than some of the other Jap 4x4s.

Another big plus for the Surf is this forum! There is so much information available here and I just didn't find anything else as good as I trawled t'intarweb trying to find stuff out about other 4x4s.

From a purely personal point of view, I do prefer the looks of the Surf over other similar vehicles.

Finally, cos the Surf seems to be a bit of a "cult" vehicle you get specialist sites like Roughtrax who are good for parts & advice too.

I am totally with you on the looks......the Surf is so much better!

This is my first 4x4 and I intend to stay on the scene for some time so If I can get 1 to 2 years out of my purchase which will be under 15kmiles then upgrade to something newer etc.

              Gotta be Jap of course

Outwith my MX5 forums this has been the only other that seems energetic, friendly and informative. Too many of them seem up their own backside with tumbleweeds rolling across the threads

I will keep you all posted with my purchase

Absolutely - there's a really good sense of community here.

MX5's are girls cars though. Not really my cuppa tea!

I used to have a Jap import Celica which was absolutely brilliant (first car I bought after I passed my test!). I'll definitely get myself something else along those lines some day (GT4, FTO, etc) when finances allow.
