  • Removing Big Surf Stickers

    Hi guy's

I have recently purchased the surf pictured (my 2nd, 3rd gen).

What i would like to know is, has anyone removed the rather large surf

stickers on the side? Anyone know the best way to remove them? I was

thinking maybe to warm them with a hair dryer, gently peel them off!! then

clean up any residue with acetone free nail polish remover/t cut???

    As easy as that!!!!!!! NOT!!

    ALSO............

Has anyone else had their rear window weather strips (that strip that sits across the bottom of the window/ top of the door panel) seemingly popping up? there is a clip that doesn't seem to hold anything and when you close the window up, the strip seems to pop up? will try to get a pic of it to show what i mean! a pic is worth a thousand rambling, non descript, mutterings!!

Thanks all help/ advice greatly appreciated.

Removed my decals last year. Credit/atm card & heat gun. Do not use a hair dryer. It'l take you a year to get the sticker off.
Use petrol or nail polish remover to remove remaining adhesive.

Take a look here for some info.

doubt end up cocking it up!! Did it stand out underneath where the sticker

Trust me it is worth it, my own surf looked so much better after i got rid of the decals.
You need to realize that its not something you can sort in a day. It may take a few days.
Get comfortable, heat gun in one hand old bank card in the other & just take your time peeling off the sticker.
If you see loads of adhesive stuck to the paint; don't worry it'l come off with a wipe of nail-polish remover.
Get yourself some surgical gloves as the glue heats up a fair bit.
When you have sticker & adhesive removed you need to gently go over the surface with t-cut & then finish with a dose of paint restorer.
Don't be afraid to heat the sticker to a fair old temperature with the heatgun. I wasted a lot of time mucking about with a weak old hair dryer & it drove me loopy.

Just take your time because its not a job that can be rushed. Try to do it quickly & you'll damage the paintwork.

          Good luck.

Or you can use a caramel wheel which is designed for decal removal.
Sometimes they are call coach strip removers. They do the job and remove the sticky glue at the same time, after a Tcut and polish you'd never know there were any stickers.

                Maverick,

Yes, saw the thread for that. Will give it some thought and see what is best.

Where would you get one from? halfrauds or a specialist type shop?

                Thanks Tim.j

It works very similar to the old school rubbers, in that you get loads of rubber dust. Start off with the drill at about half speed (depending on what is the max revs of your drill) and see how it goes, use light pressure, and keep away from the rubber door strips as it does mark them.

I did both sides of my truck in one night shift (well you've got to do something at work haven't you).

                            Caramel wheel for decal/transfer removal.

..Just finished removing one side of my trucks decals with a caramel wheel. I thought it was just a joke when I heard about one of 'em on this site, so I took the Pepsi challenge and bought one off ebay last week.

I very nervously approached the truck this afternoon with the rubber Caramel wheel attached to a corded drill....SO GLAD I DID IT!. The truck looks ten times better. Don't know why I didn't do it earlier to be honest.

The gold 'SURF' decals where looking shite to be honest, (peeling in corners and faded). Once I got a nice bevelled edge to the caramel wheel (after ten mins or so of use) It was easier to remove the decals. They flew off 'piece-o-cake'..

Gave the truck a nice wash and T-cut after, and you'd be very hard pushed to notice there was anything there before. Luv'lee job!

I fully recommend the Caramel wheel for this job. Took me all of 2-3 hours to do one side of the truck. Have ordered another from ebay to do the other side.

search for 'Strip Off Eraser Wheel on ebay' (or caramel wheel as they're called in the body shop trade apparently)

..You'll save yourself a bucket load of time hacking away at it with a razor blade, and no one likes chipped fingernails :-)

i was in Renault Newcastle and watched 2 boys remove a vinyl signage on the two side of 13.6 meter fridge trailer and all they used was a wall paper steamer one side in in 5 hours and it will not damage your paint better than a heat gun and no scraper then give it the once over with the nail polish remover the t cut and polish to your harts content it
