  • Guess how much??

Popped into Toyota today to get a price for all new rubber seals/mouldings for the surf. This includes things like:
All rubber seals for all 4 windows,
New outer plastic door trims (black strip along the side of the truck),
New rubber seals for all 4 wheel arches,
New chrome & rubber seal for the windscreen,
New rubber seal for the rear window,
New rubber seals for the very rear windows.

Total cost from Toyota dealer 1: £2281 +VAT
Total cost from Toyota dealer 2: £1130 inc VAT
I was very puzzled at the different price. I think the first dealer included a lot of rubber seals on the inside of the truck which i didnt need nor ask for.
After taking off a few things off the list with Dealer 2 the price came down to £754.
And dealer 2 couldnt even find some of the parts even though dealer 1 could!?
    Im still in shock now

Does anybody know of any Jap specialists that may be able to supply rubber trims/moulding for the windows etc for the surfs??
I just need the windscreen, rear window, 4 windows (door windows not the very rear ones) and 4 wheel arch rubber seals.
The reason im trying to find new ones is because im re-spraying my surf soon and the ones on the truck look a bit old/faded and will just look rubbish against a new paint job. I'll paint some of the bits black such as the plastic door strips etc, thats not a prob.
    Windows 7 was my idea!

A bottle of Back to Black is less than a tenner.

Will that work ok on the rubber seals though? I know it works on bumpers and other plastic things but wasnt sure about rubber seals.
I thought of it but was worried it would just crack down the line? Have you done yours with it mate?

It's not a paint, it's a shiner upper. It'll work on any rubber.

Not as shocked as me, that someone would spend a grand on window rubber for an old Surf.

Im not. I never said i was going to pay it! lol
I only made an enquiry thinking it would cost maybe £200 tops.

              And thanks for that Albannach.
Ill give it a test before i get it painted. I dont fancy doing it afterwards

I would like some new door seals. I think I can hear some increased road noise whilst above 50mph coming from the back passenger door. I presume the rubber seal is not tight and is letting in noise.
Do you have an itemised list? I didnt think they would be that expensive!

If you think it's knackered, repair it. A waste of money buying new ones.

Repair (plump it up) by putting another piece of hollow rubber inside the existing one.

Expanding foam also works as a plumper-upper

                        I'm trying to find hollow rubber. Found plenty of these though;

How much would you pay for something like that?

Yeah they printed off a full list with the Product Numbers etc for me.
They come in 2 pieces. The door "run" and the "lower seal".
The rear passenger windows Runs are £89.48.
                              Off-side part number is: T68142-89104
                              Near side is: T68152-89109.
                              The Lower seals are £13.99.
Off side part number is: T68180-89104.
Near side part number is: T68230-89101
                              Not cheap!

I think i will just get a new tailgate seal and some front arch seals and try and bring the rest of the seals back to life with some Back to black as mentioned.
I have a full list of part numbers for pretty much all the seals if anybody needs them for future reference.
