on the dashboard has started flashing on start-up.

There is a brief clunk coming from the back (diff?) when the engine is turned off.

There has been a high freq "vibration" coming from underneath the front when the throttle is blipped.

All this within the last few days.

    Time for the crusher???

It is sounding like it is either the rear prop shaft uj's gone causing the vibrations and the clonking on the diff may be the prop shft turning a bit if the uj's are gone making you think its the rear diff.
If your getting bad vibrations in the truck then i would seriously take the truck off the road till its sorted. If the rear prop goes depending on which end has gone you don't want to be driving the truck at any speed as it can dig in and flip the truck

no bad vibrations; you can't hear any of this from inside. the hi-freq is like a ref's whistle and it lasts a second or less, the "clunk" is just that and won't sound if the engine is cold, only when it's been running for a while.

Don't like the idea of flipping ... perhaps I'll tow it to a garage?

also check your diff pinion and output flange to make sure they are not loose.
