  • 6 seats - hopefully

Just won some extra seats on the bay of E.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

Hopefully they (or one of them) will fit in the back....the measurements seem to work.

What are people's thoughts on which way the 3rd row of seats should face forward or rearwards??

    Any comments?

I reckon most practical way would be having the passengers face the back wondow for ease of getting in and out and using the space when there is no-one sitting there.

Fair comment. Although the seats are removable so will spend most of the time in the garage....with maybe one in the truck.

I also worry about having a childs head so close to the rear window just in case of a rear impact (or roll).

Good point about the rear impact possibility too. Handy also that theyre removable but you know lazyness will get the better of you from time to time.

I would not put the seats facing the rear window for the safety aspect.

So don't fit them facing the rear window, and don't fit the facing the rear seats.

Better stick them back on Ebay then!!

The poor kids, their bottoms are going to be a few inches off the floor and they are going to have their knees up around their ears and probably next to no head-room.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

I think I will have a measure up when I put them in.

I have 3 children of a variety of sizes and ages.....one of them is sure to fit

As far as the safety of rear facing goes....I think we are fine there....and so say all the Volvo's, Mercedes and Audi's that had an extra row of rear facing seats (and Hilux Surfs/4runners that were sold with the family pack from 2004 (i think)).

As far as forward facing goes, as i say, i will have a measure up.

I'll let you know.....I was going to measure up the mondeo estate we have as well for the other seat.

We only have 3 children but have a large ageing mother in law as well, so that is the reason for the very occaisional need of an extra seat.

About 7-8inches looking at the picture, plenty for a child...

We had rear facing seats fitted in the back of our old 940 Estate and they were regarded as being safer than forward facing as long as the childs head had proper support - if their head projected significantly above the top of the seat then it's a definite no as they'd suffer major neck damage in the event of a crunch. The other question is what type of glass is the rear window made from - if it's just toughened then there's the risk of them getting a faceful of broken glass ......

IMHO the best option is to flog off the seats and put the MiL in the back - after a few miles she'd never want to come with you again !

                            PS
Your insurance company WILL want to know about them and it WILL invalidate your insurance if they don't know !

They might very well refuse to insure you too - we only got away with it cos ours was a genuine Volvo seat fitted new by a Volvo dealer and the car had safety glass in the rear window

                              Fair comments.

Seatbelts come with the seats....well, lapbelts do...which bolt through the floor/seat mount.

I'll have to check whether it is safety glass in the back.....and thanks for the info on the seat back height.

My car V5 document says "9-seater MPV" anyway, so I'll let the insurance know and see what they make of it....if I need to get it re-MOT'd then so-be-it.

The thing is....I don't want another vehicle...I had planned on this as being the one that I spend money on over the years....I just need that extra seat once in a very rare blue moon.....so am hoping that I can make this work (safely) and to the satisfaction of insurers and the law.
