  • Rear springs

Reckoning we're suffering from a touch of the old SAS, and had a good look around when wax oiling at the weekend to see there was quite a bit of rust on the rear springs. So it's time to get some new ones in there.

Don't want a lift, but we're preparing for a long overland trip so want it set up for a heavy load.

Can't see any on Roughtrax, but Milners sell rear springs, here. Anyone know if they're any good? I think they may be what's on at the moment (same colour). Is it possible to get uprated, stiffer, but stock length, springs from anywhere?

Finally, should I be replacing the shocks at the same time as springs? There's nothing noticeably wrong with them, so hoping not since they're a fair bit more than the springs.

go for the milners 20% uprated rear springs,if your shocks arent leaking and are in pretty good condition i dont see any point in replacing them.i take it you have the electronic soft/hard units fitted.if you wanted to go for cheaper replacements then i would recomend pro comp es 9000/or 3000.

The Milners ones were 20% uprated. Best ring them to make sure they still are. I use them and they work well when the truck is full of my camping gear.

Some people have had them sag though - you'll find it in a search.

Unless money is really tight, I'd do everything in one go. Given that you'll be replacing all the bushes, etc, as a matter of course adding the price of new shock absorbers onto the price it isn't such a huge difference. For the sake of £30 a side (for the Milners ones) I'd rather do it all in one go rather than needing to do it twice when the shocks need replacing at some point in the future.

          Swings & roundabouts I suppose...

When I do mine I'll probably get one of Roughtrax 2" lift kits but given that I have no money at the moment it won't be happening anytime soon!

Phoned Milners and they ones they're selling are the 20% uprated standard length, as storm and stein said. They reckon there's no need at all to replace the shocks if they're in good nick. Thanks all!

Had thought of doing the lift, but don't think we'll be in many places that we'll really benefit from it, and the more standard the vehicles are the better for spares, maintenance etc. Also trying to do as much as possible to keep fuel consumption down...
