help me decipher my fail sheet?

failed the MOT yesterday, not that i wasnt expecting it.
list goes as follows:

measurements
brakes failures: DBT service brake efficiency : 40%

reasons for refusal
001 service brake efficiency below requirements
002 (both) stop lamp not working
003 rear fog lamp missing
004 front exhaust has major leak of gases
005 front brake pads less than 1.5mm thick
006 steering box has relative movement between the sector shaft and the drop arm
007 (at idler arm) drag link end ball joint has excessive play
008 (no gas test) exhasut has major leak of gases


so i know what most is but 006 & 007 puzzle me as i dont know much about steering.

002 i think this is the switch/relay thing that clicks when you press the pedal...works most times but not always. what should i check to fix this?

and 003 well i just plain forgot to refit it so DOH.

what should i be looking at/for on these issues?

006 looks like the pitman arm is loose.

007 is new idler arm, the ball joint isn't replaceable.

002 might need a new switch.

where is the switch to be found for the brake lights? is it part of or fitted to the pedal?
