    It's a pick-up with a re-bored engine, going by the details.

No. I sold my Rover last year without a log book. The new owner (if you trust them!) has to apply for a new log book at a cost of £25 (ish) and you as the prior owner remain responsible for any speeding tickets, parking fines, road tax, etc until it gets registered in someone elses name.

So, you're taking a hell of a risk by selling it without a log book if you ARE actually the registered owner. Personally, I'd be highly suspicious of a vehicle coming from a scrap metal business without one!!

                    Wouldn't go near it myself!
Perhaps I'm thinking that traders cannot sell without a log book.

Apart from it being about £1k overpriced, why not?

Registered Auction Houses can, they are dealers?
