Need a bit more detail here.
When you say the expansion tank is full, do you mean all the way to the top? If so, it will push coolant whenever you drive it. It should only be half full and is called an expansion tank for a reason
What do you mean the rad is sometimes OK? What times and what do you mean by OK? You mean full?
The bottom hose should be much colder than the top.Last edited by Sancho; 24 January 2010, 23:17.

If the expansion bottle is blowing out water then the system is pressurising i would of thought and if so then i would say the head has gone or going
When the truck is running is the top rad hose soft or hard.If it is hard then i'll go by what i said abovehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/henpals/

What i would do to start with and thats see if the head gasket has blown.I had a 3.0l in a while ago with starting problems.I took the head off and the gasket had blown between 1 & 2 pots but the head on that truck was ok.I would get the head off and get it pressure tested aswell to be on the safe side before spending to much on it and check the gasket also
We did find out tho that the previous owner had put unleaded in which in turn blew the c rap out the gasket but the head was okhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/henpals/

set fire to some petrol, then try diesel, then imaging the result of the petrol going off under 400psi in your Surfs combustion chamber, instead of 150ish psi of a petrol motor.
