Because nylon has a bit of flexibility / give in it. If it has any movement it will affect your steering. On the rear coil spacers it's fine as the 5 links are not affected. On the front I'd be worried.

    Just my opinion though.

BTW, the ones offered by Outrageous Offroad are made in the UK, made of steel, and configurable for different thickness by the end user, so if you decide you dont like the ride at max height, you can tune it down a bit.
Plus, no notching of the upper wishbone is requiered.
Only a fool would order them from the U.S.

naaah..all (or 90% of) the shear loading is through the bolts. Derlin Nylon has a rockwell hardness (measure of compressive strength) of between 75-90. In comparison 6061 alloy is 60, and 7075 (aircraft grade) is 87. I used 50mm blocks for the body lift..absolutely fine after 6mnths

you must be thinking of bushes or somat..derlin nylon has 0 flexiblity

why use nylon when all the best companys like steins use metal, surley if nylon was better everyon would use it.

Unless you use nylon bolts the holes wil elongate. The body mounts have a possible rotation/ movement in 1 direction. The wishbones go through an arc continuously. It's not unknown for the bolts to snap with the extra degree of rotation they travel through, and as previously mentioned, they will elongate the holes in the spacer. You can see this to a very minor degree on the metal ones. I personally wouldn't space "extra" components like this with nylon.

You reckon? If the bolts are tight, then the shear will be spread evenly throughout - ie the bolts and block will act as one due to the friction between the flats of the block and the wishbone surface and mount surface - assuming perfectly flat, given! The only way most of the shear would be through the bolts is if they were loose, and then I expect they break in pretty short order.

Compressive, yes. I've seen M12 nylon bolts (large horn antenna mounts) shear off in comparatively low stress applications, though tightened correctly, they are near impervious to compression load, hence why I have nylon bodylift blocks but wouldn't be keen on nylon BJ spacers.

Granted, there's nylon and there's nylon, but I personally wouldn't entertain it for high shear applications.

Ah, an intelligent thread for once! How I miss 'do you like baths' and 'are spacemen running the world' rants

So how much are the kits then? might get round to actually fitting some.

It's worth remembering that it is the ball joint your spacing. The shear across the rotation that you have "heightened" is now translated to a shear force across the spacer. I have no idea what the sheer strength of nylon is compared to metal, but the notion that the bolts take all the sheer force is folly.
And it's lovely to have a proper thread again.

Cheers, I only want the BJ spacers so a wee bit less then.
I'll get in touch with him soon.
