Yes and used to be common place to have a set in the boot of ones car about 10-20 years ago when it snowed often in UK winters, although local police will not take kindly to you accidentally leaving them on when the snow has cleared as they can cause damage to the road surface.

Aye, I know that. But I'm sure they were outlawed, they replaced them with poncey plasticy rubber things.

Funnilt enough, someone drove past me last night on a completely clear road in a mid size Nissan saloon on snow chains. Making a hell of a racket so I assumed they were metal.

Thats my illusions shattered. I thought we had a forum shining light and that unlike everyone else, who just trot out rubbish that was heard from " knowledgeable friend" here we had a man who after great thought and deliberation had ,figuratively speaking, put pen to paper for us.

I'm not entirely sure what the hell that's supposed to mean. Does experience of using or doing something over many years not count?

But still it could be worse. I could be slimy

My friend Gary had a set of chains in his boot when he called around yesterday...... Runs a Reptile & Falconry centre in North Wales and live on the side of a hill with a very steep farm track. Chains are the only way he can get up with his Volvo estate.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

It was an attempt at a bit of subtle humour. ( clearly not a great one) I never thought for one minute that it might bruise anyones ego.

Oh I have no ego to bruise alex, I'm not entirely sure why you thought there was. Mind you I'm off to the east coast tomorrow and as I drive there I can feel the humor darken.....,

We're not used to you having humour Alex so when you try it we don't expect it
Good attempt anyway but you need a bit more practice...
