  • Do they?

What's the story with this, "We Buy Any Car" she-ite that's poisoning my TV lately?

I'm guessing that they don't actually buy "any" car and the ones they do buy are a bought at a fraction of their value.

Sort of like the "We Buy Your Unwanted Gold" bandits that have crawled up from the sewers lately to profit from the credit crunch.

Yeah they will buy any car, as you've said for a silly amount of money.
I think this is aimed at folks who really are desperate for money & would therefore accept any offer on their car.
Its sneaky & i think their taking advantage of people in the midst of a financial crisis.

They offered me £50 for the old escort I was running around in last year. That was £50 minuse the collection, and administraion fee, so your guess what they'd actually give you.

For the record the escort got £120 on ebay.
      Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

        Re

I always reckoned that these "Gold Buying Centres" are just like high st. fences for burglars!

I can't help but wonder how much nicked jewellery has been sold through these places!

Makes me wonder why the TV companies put on their adverts on TV, as we all know they are robbing W*****S. Guess its all down to money !

And you would what if you were a businessman? Would you stand on a street corner and give out money?

They're not taking advantage of anything, people don't have to sell them their cars, if someone does, they do it through personal choice. Nothing else.

Exactly - if the cars any good stick it on ebay or autotrader etc...

You know these places are out to fleece. Use them to get rid of cars you wouldn't want to sell to real people

Nah rubbish. I think they're taking advantage of cash stricken people who will sell anything to pay the mortgage for a few months.
Why do you think they're coming out of the woodwork just as we're all entering a recession? I dont remember seeing these ads on tv 3 years ago.

Tell you what, next time you need to sell a car you should give them a call & find out what sort of money they'll give you if you think its such an angelic enterprise.
Yes of course, they just want to help you.

What do the companies do with the cars once they've bought them?

I didn't say they were angelic, I merely pointed out that they are in business to make money. If a punter choses to sell them a car, it's up to them, nobody else.

A businessman, any businessman, will buy an item that he knows is worth more than he paid for it. He will then sell that same item to someone, anyone, at an inflated price and pocket the difference (the difference being what is called profit). Just like WBAC are doing.

The fact that we're in a recession is irrelevant. I've been buying at bankruptcy auctions for 30 odd years. So taking advantage of other people's misfortune is not a new thing, it's a fact of life.

Look i dont care what you say, i dont like the ads. I think there designed to appeal to those with money problems, an easy way out of debt & there is no such thing.
You as an individual make a living out of a similar strategy but the difference is they bombard millions of tv viewers with repetitive moronic ads encouraging folks to sell their property for a fraction of the real value.
Bunch of scroungers in my opinion. Its not so much what they're doing, its how they're attracting business.
