I did less than 4,000 miles in the surf last year as I normally use the train and my custom lightweight Brompton (folding bike) to get to work. I don’t feel guilty about owning the Surf as I’m already doing my bit for the environment.

I want to replace the Surf this Spring... very likely with a Land Cruiser.... whatever I buy it must be a 4x4, an auto and have cruise control.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

Theres a lot of bitching going on over here about 4x4 drivers & ya know what? Balls to em, their a bunch of jealous whinging hypocrites.
It must be the sight of 4x4's trundling past them while they slip n slide in their little sh1t-boxes in the bad weather.

If one of these load-mouth 4x4 basher's was out driving in his/her regular car & got stuck in a ditch due to icy conditions, they'd only be too happy to take a lift from a passing 4x4.
Where would their morals be in that situation?

hey phonecrusher when you say that people are jealous you just about hit the nail on the head thats what alot of anti 4x4 sentiment is about. alot of the wingers are too lazy to get off there backsides to earn to pay for nice things like a 4x4 or a foreign holday or anything else so they find it easyer to slag off those that do. I have paid tax on the money to buy my 4x4 and keep doing so every time i fill it with diesel

Yup, its nobodies business what a person wants to drive. Like you said earlier its 'trendy' at the moment to be an environmentalist & moan about anything that doesn't run on thin air & produce pretty bubbles from the exhaust.
Wow im cool, i drive a prius, im a vegan (when it suits me) & i make my own clothes out of my own body hair. Yaaaawwwn.....

Theres probably guys on this forum that have been driving around in the same surf for years. I reckon a lot of these 4x4 haters probably trade in their plastic matchbox car's for a new one every 2 years.
                    Who's damaging the environment more?

Just on the local news that liverpool has been brought to a stand still as the gritters are running low on salt. Ive been out no probs and Im lovin my surf more and more it does everything anywhere., cant fault it, started first time and I can get round on the ice rink like roads round crosby whilst others are playing bumper cars. Went up round yorkshire for christmas and down to london for new year hitting snow and ice on the way- didnt make a difference at all. I packed an emergency kit in the boot stove sleeping bags spade etc I almost feel silly for doing so, almost. Just like to say a big thanks to the forum owners and members for the wealth of expertise and experience Ive had the pleasure to draw upon - 2nd to none.

Little birdie once said that it creates far more pollution manufacturing a brand new car than it does to continue to drive an older one.

just heard on the news that various authorities are calling on the services of 4x4 owners to help deliver home care services. How the tide changes for the gas guzzling dirt shifter when it suits.

Best one I heard possibly on thsi forum was a 4 x 4 driver got flagged down by someone who was stuck. On going to help noticed a sticker in ther rear windown calling for a ban on 4 x 4s. Needless to say the 4 x 4 driver walked off as he did nto want to offend the eco greenie. Showed it to the missus and she collapsed laughing!

I just dont understand this anti 4x4 thing anyway.
These people dont seem to know what they are talking about.

The VW Touareg was deemed the most polluting car on the road. If we stick with 4x4 surely the range rover v8 must be more polluting but what about bentleys and the like. How come these big luxury cars dont come under the cosh.
4x4's aren't even the biggest cars on the road either. I once had an audi 90 which was 500mm longer than my mates discovery.
its all just a load of nonsense and as we all know is all about tax revenue as is the sudden world government interest in global warming. Governments didn't give a s**t about global warming until they realised that they could secure votes and revenue from it.
