  • Veg Oil & Cold Weather

Are u using veg at the moment? If so what blend do u use in this weather? I have used up to 75% in warmer weather but we are currently getting temperatures down to -8. My wife is refusing to drive & I'm fairly clocking up the kilometres now.

    Any advice greatfully received.

Probably prudent not to go above 50%. Half veg half diesel. It's the sitting around at night that could cause issues. The diesel has cetane markers and extra additives to stop it waxing during cold weather. The veg will thicken up. I'm being a big coward at present and just using diesel, and it's not that cold this side. I'm over to Dunfermline at the weekend... My mate tells me it's bl00dy freezing on the east coast.
    Non intercooled nothing.

Having noted the consistency of my filtered stuff in the garage is something like ketchup, I use 0%, maximum, in this weather.

I dont have any heaters though...

I'm using 40% veg just now, no issues (been as low as -10 at night).

Using 90% veg and 10% petrol (pre mixed before sticking in the tank) and so far its been starting first time, smoking for a few minutes then driving fine.

I have a heat exchanger fitted before the injectors that heats the veg as soon as the engine heats up but nothing else.

I am in the South East though, so I may well change the amounts if it starts running really lumpy or not running at all.

The warmth of your glowing personality will surely play a part in the truck running in low temps.

Can the system hold the amount of anti freeze required.

              I doubt it.

Personally I'm still running 95% Veg (WVO filtered Peanut oil n SVO mixed ) + half litre of Petrol per 10 litres of Veg (pre Mixed) + half litre ATF n a dash of Millers Boost.
No Heaters n not had any problems so far ..

There's always a Payback .. Cos ya don't know where n ya never know when !!

When did we all start mixing petrol with veg oil?
