  • Just a WARNING while out playing

Can i just advise anyone going to play in the brown stuff to every so often please check your driveshafts and brake lines after my incident yesterday while out on the plains.
We were all being sensible may i add but wading through the deep ruts full of water i got a length of para cord wrapped around my brake line and driveshaft resulting in my extended braided brake line on the n/s being totally ripped off.
I was lucky that the brake warning light came on after a few seconds and then the brakes failed and all fluid lost.
We managed to get my truck a couple of mile to a garage where we were able to check it out.All the fluid had gone so i bought some more just so there was something in the system to be able to get to Biohazard's where he was able to replace the hose and bleed the system in order for me to be able to drive home.

I would hate for something similar to happen to someone else and they don't realise theres a problem and they have an accident doing 60/70mph on their way home.
It will only take a couple of minuits to check but well worth checking as none of us know whats in the dirty water

Sorry to hear that, but checking the vehicle over after going off road is normal, isn't it?
Or do people only do it after a bad experience?
I have had tree branches and roots jamming the gear select mechanism, mud and stones are not good amongst the brakes, and it's best to clear some of the sh!t from the front of the radiator before heading on the roads.

Agree, irresponsible if you didn't check before getting back 'on-road'
      Nissan Patrol for on-road, and a Land-Rover 110 shed for off-road :-)

The truck was checked before going out on the road as this is how we realised the brake fluid had all gone.If the truck had to be relayed home then it had to be got to a road where recovery could take place. There were 2 trucks in front of me and 1 behind as a safety measure as the garage we went to was just off the by-way.i then purchased more fluid to be able to keep topping the reservoir up so i could then get the truck to bio's in order to repair it again 2 surfs in front and 1 behind.
There was just enough pressure in the braking system by using the gears to slow the truck down ( not that we were going fast before someone says) and then use the pressure left in the rear brakes to come to a stop

I have only put this thread up as a warning that if you dont check your trucks before going home then something serious could happen especially if something like whats happened to my truck but only just splits the brake line and not rip it out like it did on mine

If Bio lived further away then i wouldn't of driven on the road at all and i would of got recovered from the end of the By-Way

I normally give the truck the once over before leaving but this happened while still playing.
I know a lot of people don't check the vehicle over but i just saying about what happened and that it could of ended up worse if i never had the warning light come on letting me know there was a problem. If the warning light never came on then we would of been going out on the road and probably driving the speed limit in which i would never of been able to stop and a serious accident happen.

Glad you were okay in that situation!
I will now definitely get under and check over. Should buy a grease gun to grease up her nipples before playing, also.

Another thing thats happened to me was the brake compensator failed leaking fluid out all over the place. On the motorway.
                          Oh Nana, what's my name?

Fortunatley it was gradual! I was stopped at lights and I would notice the car start to creep forward. I thought it was me being weak from no sleep etc. The time I crapped myself was when I had to brake a little suddenly from the crazy french drivers. Luckily after I took my foot off and stamped on them the brakes came back. I knew there was something wrong then and I tried to find a manned petrol station. There arnt many in france!
